CERRIX proudly supports BDO Nederland as its GRC partner in the European Cyber Resilience program of the VNG (the Association of Netherlands Municipalities or Vereniging van Nederlandse Gemeenten).

Following a European tender procedure, BDO Nederland has been selected as one of the 11 partners supporting approximately 75 municipalities in structurally strengthening their digital resilience. The program focuses on governance, awareness, and technical information security, core building blocks for safeguarding the continuity of vital public services.

As BDO Nederland’s GRC partner, CERRIX enables an integrated approach to governance and risk management. By connecting risks, controls, incidents, and responsibilities in one platform, municipalities gain continuous insight into their digital resilience and compliance posture.

Why this matters for municipalities?

Dutch municipalities manage growing volumes of sensitive data and critical systems that support vital public services, from citizen records to operational technology such as traffic control and water infrastructure. Rapid digitalisation, increasing cyber threats, and rising regulatory pressure, including NIS2, are making cybersecurity a strategic governance issue rather than a purely technical one. With the 2026 municipal elections approaching, this program provides a timely opportunity for municipalities to strengthen oversight, embed cybersecurity into policy, and move from fragmented controls toward a structurally resilient digital foundation.

From CERRIX perspective, cyber resilience is not a one-off compliance exercise. It requires continuous oversight and clear ownership, especially in light of regulations such as NIS2 and the Cybersecurity Act. A central GRC approach helps municipalities move from fragmented controls to sustainable, organisation-wide resilience.

The European Cyber Resilience program marks an important step toward making municipalities digitally resilient by design. CERRIX is proud to contribute, together with BDO Nederland and other partners, to strengthening the digital foundations of local government, now and in the years ahead.
